daily dose of art.

here are two artists to peep. david altmejd and elliott hundley. they both show at andrea rosen gallery and elliott also shows at regen projects (he has an opening at regen 3/7 from 6-8pm). i've been digging both these artists for a while.
both of their works are appealing to me for their palette, formalism, and eclectic materials.

david altmejd's work will often be composed of taxidermied animals, geodes/crystals, mirrors, branches, severed animal heads, and often times, slick, seductive materials like silver, gold, and highly finished minimal structures. it's the disparity between the decay and the growth, the macabre and the delicate that makes his work so compelling to look at... for me at least.
peep this:

"The Lovers", 2004

"Center", 2008

"Untitled (Dark)", 2001

photo's don't really do justice to elliott's work. the work is insanely delicate (as many of the elements of the collages are held up merely by map pins) but they have an incredible amount of depth to them. really really fun to look at and get lost in. i've seen photos from his studio and my god, it looks like a whirlwind. but i think the implied process of his work is really beautiful. there must be a lot of reuse of different pieces of work. makes it interesting to think that the work seems to be like an ever-growing body that consumes, transforms, dies, and is reincarnated into something completely different.
here is also a few images of elliot hundley's work:

"Hyacinth", 2006

"Hyacinth", 2006 Detail

"Siren", 2006 installation view

"Deathless Aphrodite of the Spangled Mind", 2002-2003

so there's your daily dose. enjoy.
